Rivers Janssen
Senior Writer

Rivers’s first writing job was ideal for someone with an interest in global cultures. As an editor for a coffee trade magazine, he toured coffee plantations in India, learned about wine-making techniques in the Napa Valley with a group of Nicaraguan coffee farmers and immersed himself in the social, economic and environmental aspects of coffee production. The experience serves him well in his writing, as he’s able to tackle complicated global topics—like the economics of sustainable coffee—in ways that make sense to the casual reader. And he makes a mean pour-over.
